Strange Rumblings in America

My return from weekend of drunkenness in Philadelphia was greeted with the sobering news of Hunter S. Thompson's death "from a self-inflicted gunshot wound." The articles I saw last night listed him as 65, but the big NYT article I read today said he was born July 18, 1937, which makes him 67. Journalists are already starting to get lazy, knowing they won't be skewered by a relentless, fire-snorting doctor of gonzo. The NY Times has a nice feature on him, with a short bio, an interview from the early nineties, and book reviews of his major work. I can't handle Wild Turkey, but don't let that stop you from drinking a bottle in his honor.
